"Infant Don't Cry" is a song recorded past Japanese recording artist Namie Amuro for her eighth studio album, Play (2007). It was written, composed, bundled, and produced past Japanese musician Naoaki Yamato, nether the alias Nao'ymt. The single besides included the B-side rails "Nobody", a re-recorded version of her single "White Lite". On December 28, 2006, Japanese magazine CD Periodical confirmed the release of a new unmarried, entitled "Babe Don't Cry".[1] It was written, composed, arranged, and produced by Japanese musician Naoaki Yamato, under the alias Nao'ymt. The vocal was recorded in 2006 at On Air Azabu Studio, Minato-ku, Tokyo past Toshihiro Wako. The vocal contains backing vocals past Japanese vocalist Hiromi.[2] The unmarried also included the B-side track "Nobody", a re-recorded version of her unmarried "White Low-cal". It was intended to announced on Amuro'southward eighth studio album, Play, as the original version was omitted. However, the re-recorded version did not cease up on the final rails list.[3] Information technology premiered on January 24, 2007 equally the 3rd single from the album in Japan. The CD unmarried contains both "Baby Don't Cry" and "Nobody", plus shortened versions of the tracks. These versions were used for various Japanese television commercials. Upon its release, "Baby Don't Weep" received positive reviews from almost music critics. Staff members from Amazon were positive in their review, labeling the song and Amuro's vocal delivery as "impressive". They also complimented Nao'ymt's "perfect" collaboration with Amuro.[four] An editor writing from CD Periodical praised the song'south mixture of R&B and pop genres. They also felt it was a "archetype representation" of Amuro's music inside of the 21st century.[8] AllMusic's editor Adam Greenberg commended the song's departure from the album's electronic music, maxim "'Baby Don't Cry' finally gives a peek at Amuro's vocals with less electronic additions...".[ix] AllMusic staff selected the unmarried equally one of Amuro's best songs in her discography.[x]
Commercial performance [edit]
Commercial, "Infant Don't Cry" was successful in Japan. It debuted at number three on the Oricon Daily Singles Nautical chart, and stayed in that location for four days. This resulted in a debut position of number three on the Oricon Singles Chart, two positions behind entries by Mr. Children and Masafumi Akikawa; it sold 52,168 units inside its first week of sales.[eleven] [12] [13] This became Amuro's first unmarried in six years to sell over 50,000 units in its first calendar week since "Say the Word".[12] The post-obit week, it fell to number 4 with 24,643 units sold inside its second calendar week of sales.[14] It slipped again to number seven with 18,663 units sold in its third week of sales,[15] and had its final elevation ten appearance the post-obit calendar week at number nine; it sold thirteen,088 units.[sixteen] It lasted xv weeks in the Top 200 chart, and sold over 144,081 units by the cease of 2007; it ranked at number 48 on Oricon's Almanac Singles Chart.[17] This became Amuro's highest selling single since "Say the Word" (with 184,000 units sold),[12] and was her highest selling unmarried until it was outsold by her 2011 single "Sit! Stay! Wait! Down!/Love Story" (with 162,000 units sold).[12] [A] "Infant Don't Cry" was certified gilded by the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) for shipments of 100,000 units.[19]
The unmarried was certified meg in May 2007 past the RIAJ for ringtone sales of ane million units in Japan. This is her first unmarried to be certified 1000000 by RIAJ since her 1997 unmarried "How to Be a Girl", and was her sixth overall.[20] [21] Although the song has not charted on whatever digital tape charts in Japan, it was cerfifed double platinum by the RIAJ for cellphone sales of 500,000 units.[22] It was certified gold in December 2012 past the RIAJ for digital sales of 100,000 units.[23]

The single has been performed on several tours conducted by Amuro, and has appeared on Japanese commercials and television series. "Baby Don't Cry" made its debut live performance on her Play Bout (2008), which was in support of the anthology with the same championship. The live DVD was released on Feb 27, 2008.[24] [25] It was included on Amuro'southward greatest hits concert tour, All-time Fiction 2008–2009; it was performed every bit the final song from the setlist. "Baby Don't Weep" was used as the theme vocal for the Japanese television drama series, Himitsu no Hanazono (2007). Alongside this, it was included in iii Japanese commercials: the Avex Trax "Myu-Umo" music commercial, the Pokemero Joysound commercial, and for the Fuji Idiot box television series, Secret Garden.[viii] An accompanying music video was shot in Japan past Masashi Muto. It opens with Amuro running on outdoor steps, and walking along a pavement span. As the chorus starts, intercut scenes of copse are shown, as she walks through the metropolis. The second verse has her walking through a park, with yellow-ish leaves on the footing. She witnessed two small-scale children on a park bench, holding the chain to a dog. The third chorus then has her walking through a city square, and ends with her continuing on a beach front at sunset. A curt version of the video was uploaded on Amuro's YouTube page on November sixteen, 2011,[31] whilst a full version was uploaded i month later.[32]
